IMPORTANT NOTICE - TEMPORARY CLOSURE DUE TO COVID-19

The Committee has decided that due to the quickly escalating nature of COVID-19 and the fact that the Christchurch City Council has closed all facilities that it is time to temporarily close to protect our members, and volunteers.

We are unsure when we will reopen again, we will just see what happens over the next couple of weeks.

Toys do not need to be returned, please hold onto them and look after them until we reopen. We will not be open this week for toys to be returned.

We hope that everyone stays well during this pandemic, please be kind to each other! We hope we can reopen very soon

Covid 19 - Our plan

20-03-2020

20 March 2020

Dear members

The health and safety of our librarian, volunteers, and members are of paramount importance to the Waimairi Toy Library. Our committee met last night to discuss our response to the Covid 19 situation.

It was agreed to follow several other toy library’s leads and temporarily close from Saturday 28 March so we can minimize any risk to our members. This has not been a decision that we have taken lightly, but we feel this is in the best interest of all. The government is urging for social distancing including no handshakes, hugs or hongi. The reality is our toys are touched, coughed on and mouthed. This may seem like a strong reaction but this thing is fast evolving, even in the last 48 hours things have changed and we need to be prepared.

WE WILL BE TEMPORARILY CLOSING FROM SATURDAY 28 MARCH 2020.

If you wish to return your toys and hire new ones for the period we are closed please do so on the following days:

  • Saturday 21 March 9.30am-12.30pm (extended session)
  • Thursday 26 March 7.00-8.30pm
  • Saturday 28 March 9.30am-12.30pm (extended session)

At the library, there will be a cleaning station set up with a bleach solution. All members returning toys must fully clean the toys (all parts of it) and the box (inside and out) at the library before returning them. Please allow yourselves plenty of time to do this task. A trip to the toy library during this time will not be a quick visit.

If you currently have toys on loan and do not wish to come into the library, you may keep them at your place for the duration we are closed. If you wish to hire new toys to keep you sane during possible isolation with your children there will be no late fees and you may keep the toys for the period we are closed.

We ask our members to please take special care of our toys while on loan during the closure period. We will be issuing fees for any broken toys or missing pieces when returned.

Again, we ask all members to please refrain from visiting the toy library if you are feeling unwell, have recently travelled overseas, or have family members who have recently returned from overseas. Please email the library if you fall into this category to let us know. Again, there will be no late fees for toys you have in your possession.

If it is possible, we ask that you leave your children at home during these last few open sessions, or if you do bring them into the library, we ask that you don’t let your children play with toys or on ride-on toys unless you are taking them home with you.

We understand that these are uncertain times and we thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.

We will keep in touch via email and Facebook in regard to when we will reopen again.

Thank you

The Waimairi Toy Library Committee
